Cabin Fever

You'd be surprised how many people actually ask what you've possibly wondered yourself at least once. Three little kids, mom at home, teeny house- What do you guys do all day?

Before, when we had outdoor play as an option, we spent at very least an hour in the backyard every day. Preschool for Mia took up a couple hours twice a week during the twins' naptime. Storytime at the library. The park. COSI every other week.

Plenty to do. 'Til the weather hits. I'm a chicken when it comes to cold weather. In my experience, take kid out in the cold= sick kid. Every. Time. What's the deal? I remember freezing my extremities off every day as a kid, and only getting sick about once a year. I'm not talking runny nose. That's pretty much a given. These guys get one look at the word October, their temperatures spike and they start puking.

Bree got sick a couple of days ago. A little fever and a little spitting up. The same day my back went out. After just a couple weeks of chilly weather, the unhappy circumstances exacerbated the hint of winter blues we'd already been feeling. (Look at that face- ha! We had to snap it.)

Meanwhile, we've been forced to get creative with our passage of the cooped-up hours.

And when our ideas run out, there's always Dora to be creative for us.

Who knows, maybe this bug will stop with Bree, and I'll be proved mercifully wrong. But now that backyard and park are pretty much eliminated, we're left with... not a lot. You got any ideas?

No ideas for you but I love, love, love the bathtub hair pic. Good luck, Spring is only four months away!

I feel your pain. I never thought I'd be a parent that would just let their kid watch t.v, but it's like 4:00 hits and I just can't think of anything else to do so Wonder Pets entertains my kid while I cook dinner. I'm tempted to go buy memberships to every indoor kid place for the winter.

I'm not sure I have ideas but can I come over so you can do my hair????

I think maybe you should find another mom to kids that same age and arrange playdates for them while the two of you have lunch n a chat. It's hard being stuck in the house all day. We just pull out the crafts, games, activities, etc. OR go to the indoor kids museum or something if it's not too far and the roads are oK.

I can't even imagine what that is like. We are outside all year EXCEPT for a couple months in the summer. That is when we have cabin fever but they can still go outside as long as WATER is involved!

On really tough days I let the kids ride bikes/trikes in the house. :)

Definitely like the ride your bikes through the house. We would do that in our unfinished basement when we were kids. Still though Winter seems to be a time for going stir-crazy.

Oh boy...hope you're all feeling better soon. As my grandma would say, this year has been a "hum-dinger" already at our house too. I can't stand cold and flu season!

I just had to pop over to thank you for your kind words of encouragement the other day. I needed it!

Those hairdos look familiar. Oh yeah, Hannah got one one year.

I dunno about the outing thing. It IS so hard when you don't know what to do or where to go, especially when you have to wait for naptime to do any puzzles or games or crafts with the older kids becuase the youngers will tear everything to pieces....
hmmm.
I blog. They fend for themselves.

Look how fun you are:) I just get the movies out and have the kids pick one..or three. Sick kids are the worst! I think I changed a total of like 23 diapers yesterday:

Very cute. I have three little ones myself. Only I find myself getting less creative as the years go on...hmmm. Maybe I need to rethink that.
